Erik Mortenson is an assistant professor in the Department of English and Comparative Literature at Koç University in Istanbul, Turkey. His first book, Capturing the Beat Moment: Cultural Politics and the Poetics of Presence, was selected as a Choice Outstanding Academic Title in 2011. His second book, Ambiguous Borderlands: Shadow Imagery in Cold War American Culture, explores the image of the shadow as it appears in mid-century poetry, pulp fiction, photography, film, and television. He is currently working on a project which examines the reception of Beat texts in Turkey.
