Author Guidelines

The editor will initially determine whether the content of the manuscript is appropriate for the journal and whether there is sufficient publication potential to proceed with anonymous reviews. Manuscripts that do not pass this initial screening are returned immediately. If a manuscript is sent out for the review process it is typically completed within 12 weeks.

 Submissions should consist of a title page and separate manuscript file.

 The title page should include:

  • The manuscript title.
  • Author(s), affiliation, and e-mail address.
  • Any acknowledgments, including grant support documentation when appropriate.
  • The ORCID numbers for all authors

 The manuscript file should:

  • Include an abstract of no more than 150 words.
  • List 4 to 5 keywords.
  • The submission should be 8,000 words all inclusive (abstract, main document, references, tables, figures), but not including supplemental materials
  • Be prepared in accordance with the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 6th edition.
  • The entire manuscript should be double spaced, and manuscripts should have 1 inch margins on all four sides.
  • References should be carefully edited to ensure consistency with APA guidelines and include DOI numbers.
  • Statistics and statistical analyses should be reported in line with APA guidelines including standard deviations and effect sizes when applicable.  Confidence intervals must be reported when bootstrapping is utilized.  Further, inclusion of correlation matrices with means and standard deviations for all study variables is strongly recommended.
  • Figures and tables should be placed at the end of the manuscript file and numbered in the order they appear in text. Tables should be editable, formatted in line with APA guidelines, and have a clear title.
  • An in-text callout (example: “[Figure 1 here]”) should be inserted on a separate line just after the paragraph where each figure or table appears.
  • Endnotes should be used sparingly.
  • The authors should provide supplemental materials including experimental stimuli, items for measures (especially new measures), coding materials and procedures, additional statistical analyses, and other valuable information for the review process.

 

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • Where available, DOIs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is double-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all figures and tables are placed at the end of the document.

Short Communications

Short Communications are brief--1750 words maximum--essays, editorials, and field notes that do not have to report original research findings.  They do not require an abstract or keywords.  References are required.
