Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, DOIs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • The author agrees to the terms of the Journal Publication Agreement: https://journals.ku.edu/urjh/agreement

Author Guidelines

A submission can be a class paper (with some additions so that people unfamiliar with the topic can follow the argument), an independent research project, part of a capstone/senior thesis project, or an art exhibition review. It must be within 2000 and 9000 words. Every submission must include an abstract of 100 to 150 words and a scholarly literature section. The scholarly literature review section can be a paragraph or more. The author must explain the uniqueness of their argument in relation to other scholars in this section. For ease of reading, the submission must be in Times New Roman, 12 pt., and double-spaced. The font, font size, and spacing will be changed if the article is published. It needs to have a title, and page numbers. Lastly, the submission must have footnotes, endnotes, or in-text citations, and a bibliography. The citations and the bibliography must be in the same style. The URJH only uses MLA and Chicago/Turabian citation styles.

Authors should attach their submissions as a Word document labeled "Title" and remove all occurences of their name from the document as their registration with OJS will allow the Editors to know their identity while barring it from the reviewers for a blind review process. The content of the submission comment box should include author's full name, hometown, major(s), minor(s), year in school, mentor/professor for paper, topic of paper, and if the paper is a class paper, independent research project, or a part of a senior thesis.
