About the Journal

The Jayhawk Journalist is the alumni magazine of the William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of Kansas.  The Jayhawk Journalist magazine was the brainchild of Professor Lee Young, who started the magazine program in the late 1960s. Lee began preparing a course in magazine production that would offer students realistic media experience similar to that available to news-editorial and advertising majors on the University Daily Kansan and to radio and TV broadcast students. The magazine’s mission has always been to main contact with journalism alumni and keep them informed about life where they once experienced it. The first edition was published in 1970, and was printed regularly until 2003. The publication was then rebranded as a newsletter called J-Links until 2014 when the Jayhawk Journalist was revived.
