JRAS 5.1 Published!
The editorial board of the Journal of Russian American Studies(JRAS) is thrilled to announce the publication of volume 5, issue 1. This is an exciting issue with four articles, five book reviews and some very interesting Field Notes. Svetlana Paulson discusses some very interesting aspects of the lives of American diplomats in late Imperial Russia. Norman Saul edits a short previously unpublished memoir from 1931 by American industrialist John M. Carmody about thisexperience in the Soviet Union. Marilyn Schwinn Smith starts a narrative about American John Cournos and his work among Russian poets. Lastly, Nina Bogdan examines the fascinating life of Nadia Shapiro and her experience in Russia’s Far East and San Francisco. We hope you find these articles, book reviews, field notes stimulating and insightful.
The editorial board of JRASis also excited to announce some changes in operation of our journal. Dr. Norman Saul helped found this journal more than five years ago, but has decided to step down from the Co-Managing Editor position, but will remain on the editorial board. It is hard to express enough thanks for all that Dr. Saul has done and continues to do for this journal. We thank him very much. Our new Co-Managing Editor is now Dr. Lee A. Farrow of Auburn University at Montgomery. She has been on the editorial board since the beginning of the journal and is an excellent scholar in the field of Russian-American relations. We are thrilled that Dr. Farrow will step into this position. Readers might also notice a change to our web image. Benjamin Farrow has provided his graphic design expertise to help create a more vibrant image for this issue of our journal. We plan to continue to develop this into the future.
As always, the editors wish to thank the University of Kansas Libraries for hosting our journal. A special thanks to Pam LeRow who recently retired for laying out the journal for the first four years. Congratulations on your retirement. Thank you as well to Marianne Reed and Eric Bader for helping pull all of this together and get it posted. Thank you as well to the authors in this issue and the reviewers who helped make this happen.
