Author Guidelines
INFORMATION FOR AUTHORS
Manuscripts are actively solicited for The Kansas Anthropologist. Articles should have a relationship to Kansas anthropology (archeology, ethnography, ethnohistory, cultural/social anthropology, physical anthropology, etc.). All manuscripts must be the original, unpublished work of the authors. Responses to previously published articles and book reviews are invited also.
The varied readership of the journal should be kept in mind when preparing papers. Jargon should be avoided. Third-person narrative is strongly preferred unless the piece is a personal reminiscence in which first-person voice is acceptable. Contractions should be avoided. The style authority is American Antiquity (see https://www.saa.org/publications/american-antiquity).
Manuscripts should be prepared using as little internal formatting as possible. Tables and figures should not be embedded in the text, but each submitted as a separate file. Illustrations are encouraged, and their preparation is the responsibility of the author. Digital photography with original resolution less than 300 dpi is not optimal for print publications. High resolution digital images are preferred, but 35-mm black and white or color prints or slides are accepted. All illustrations should be designed to fit within 6 x 8.5-inch margins, including caption. If protected by copyright, securing written permission for use is the responsibility of the author. Manuscripts may be submitted on a portable storage device (flash or jump drive), as e-mail attachments, or by Dropbox, OneDrive, or other cloud storage sites. If computer technology is not available, a hard copy may be submitted.
The editor will review manuscripts and judge whether articles are appropriate and what revisions may be necessary for publication. Outside reviewers may be used. Authors will receive a proof of the formatted article for review before printing.
A digital copy of the article and up to five reprints will be provided free of charge to the author of each major article. Book reviewers will receive a digital copy of the review and up to two reprints. Abstracts are posted on the KAA web site at www.katp.org.
