As a publication Reptiles & Amphibians is leading scientific journal dedicated to publishing natural history notes and range extensions of herpetofauna, as well as high-quality research articles among other article formats. We are committed to advancing our scientific knowledge of herpetofauna through the understanding of natural history, we aim to maintain excellence in our publication standards through rigorous review processes and meticulous editing. That’s hopefully where you come in!

We have been thrilled by the growing success of the journal, however the quantity of quality submissions that we receive is now no longer manageable for the small team of Editors. We are therefore seeking skilled copyeditors to join our team and ensure the accuracy, clarity, and consistency of the manuscripts prior to publication. Copyeditors will play a crucial role in upholding the quality of our journal by meticulously reviewing scientific content once it has passed through peer-review, adhering to style guidelines, and polishing language to meet our high editorial standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review manuscripts for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and syntax errors.
  • Ensure adherence to journal style guidelines and formatting requirements.
  • Verify accuracy of scientific terminology, data, references, and citations (where required).
  • Collaborate closely with authors, reviewers, and editors to address any editorial queries or concerns.
  • Conduct fact-checking and ensure consistency in data presentation and interpretation.
  • Identify and correct inconsistencies, ambiguities, or logical flaws in content.
  • Maintain clear communication and documentation of editorial decisions.

Requirements:

  • Native English proficiency with exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Previous experience in copyediting, preferably within a scientific publishing environment is desirable.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy under tight deadlines.
  • Familiarity with scientific terminology and understanding of research methodologies.
  • Proficiency in using relevant editing software and tools.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
  • Commitment to upholding ethical standards and integrity in scientific publishing.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Science, or a related field.
