Journal of Russian American Studies (JRAS) 7.2 Published!

2023-11-03

We are pleased to announce the publication of the Journal of Russian American Studies (JRAS) 7.2 (November 2023).  This completes our 7th year, and we could not be prouder of all our contributors over all these years.  Thank you to all who have contributed to the success of our journal.  A special note of thanks to Marianne Reed, Eric Bader at the University of Kansas Libraries is certainly due!  Our editorial board is certainly a wonderful group to work with and a constant source of support. Thank you Norman Saul, Ivan Kurilla, David Foglesong, Lyubov Ginzburg, Matt Miller, and Victoria I. Zhuravleva.

This issue features two articles.  The first is a lengthy article by Susan and James M. Schibanoff that tells a fascinating tale of a railway worker who finds his way to America, but his journey takes him through religious movements, radical politics, and revolution before he ultimately reaches Oregon, Illinois.  The second article by Joshua E. Segal traces the work of Americans who joined the medical services of the Russian Persia Expeditionary Force during the course of the First World War.  This little-studied area of American involvement in this aspect of Russian medical service opens up new insights into how Americans and Russians worked together at this critical juncture.

This issue also features five book reviews and a Field Notes section that has some interesting events in the field – including some highlighted sessions that will be coming up during the ASEEES convention in Philadelphia from November 30-December 2.

We hope you enjoy this issue.  Please contact us if you would like to contribute to our journal in any way.  We are always looking for good articles, manuscript reviewers, book reviewers, and books to review.

Sincerely,

Ben Whisenhunt and Lee Farrow
