Journal of Russian American Studies (JRAS) 10.1 (May 2026) – Published

2026-05-01

The editors of the Journal of Russian American Studies (JRAS) are proud to announce the publication of a new issue.  This issue has two articles, several book reviews and field notes.  The first article by Elena Yushkova explores the relationship between theatre director Fyodor F. Komissarzhevsky and writer Victor I. Seroff based on correspondence found in the Houghton Library at Harvard University.  The second article by Diana Cucuz is an examination about how consumer culture was promoted to Russian women at the American National Exhibition in Moscow in 1959.  Both are fascinating studies and we are proud to publish them here.

This is the first issue being published in the journal’s tenth year.  We are thrilled to mark the anniversary with three issues this year.  A few thanks are in order.  First, we are thankful for all the work scholars have done over this decade for the journal.  That includes articles, book reviews, and manuscript reviews.  Second, the staff at the University of Kansas Libraries (where the journal is hosted) have been brilliant.  Marianne Reed and Eric Bader are excellent folks to work with.  Previously, Pam LeRow was excellent support as well.  Lastly, the editorial board has contributed time, ideas, and energy for this journal for more than a decade.  Thank you so much to David S. Foglesong, Lyubov Ginzburg, Ivan I. Kurilla, Matthew L. Miller, Norman Saul, and Victoria I. Zhuravleva.

The Journal of Russian American Studies (JRAS) is planning a special issue for summer 2026 on travel accounts in non-Russian areas of the Russian Empire and Soviet Union.

In November 2026, the Journal of Russian American Studies (JRAS) will publish its regular second issue further commemorating the journal’s decade of publication.

The Journal of Russian American Studies (JRAS) is always looking for books to review, book review authors, manuscript reviewers, and manuscripts to consider for publication as articles.  Please feel free to contact us about any of the above roles.

Sincerely,

Ben Whisenhunt
Lee A. Farrow
