Folk etymology is too complex a phenomenon to be dismissed as a mere source of mistakes based on ignorance. The present paper reflects the opinions of a Romanian linguist (and Anglicist) on irregular phonetic-semantic shifts produced by inter-language borrowing, or by intra-language passage from one period to another.Downloads
