About the Journal
Paleontological Contributions is an online-only, open-access, rapid publication journal, available free of charge to anyone with internet access.
Paleontological Contributions invites submissions that deal with all aspects of paleontology or related biological disciplines. Original research articles and monographs are welcome. Systematic treatments, including descriptions of new taxa, are welcome, and Paleontological Contributions complies with the requirements of ICBN and ICZN for publication of valid nomenclature. Hard copies of each article are archived at libraries throughout the world.
Paleontological Contributions supersedes the University of Kansas Paleontological Contributions, new series, which consolidated into one format the three series that were published previously, Monographs, Articles, and Papers. All previous versions of Paleontological Contributions can be found on the University of Kansas ScholarWorks site.
All articles are peer reviewed by at least two external referees, and reviews are assessed by Associate Editors, who make recommendations to the Editor. Reviews remain anonymous except where reviewers choose to identify themselves.
Accepted manuscripts are published online on this website as Adobe Acrobat (PDF) files and are made available open access under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY 4.0) license.
Paleontological Contributions has specific policies when it comes to the use of content created by Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools.
- The journal will not use Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to select associate editors or reviewers for submitted articles.
- Authors must also take responsibility for the accuracy and originality of all material submitted.
- Articles entirely written by AI tools are not permitted
- AI tools cannot be listed as authors of papers.
- If AI tools are used to generate or help generate any part of a manuscript, such as text and figures (note, this does not include software that corrects spelling or grammar), or are used to translate material, etc., they must be described in detail in the Methods section of submitted papers.
- In addition, the unmodified AI generated content must be shared as supplementary material.
