  A survey of the contemporary world provides no shortage of ways in which social order appears to teeter on the brink of collapse. The global rise of anti-democratic movements, the unprovoked Russian invasion of Ukraine, cascading global climate crises, and the persistence of gender and racial inequities are but a few examples of the social chaos in recent years. In response, counter-movements attempt to address these crises, but their ability to meaningfully restructure social conditions remains unclear. For the 37^th volume of Social Thought and Research, graduate students and early career scholars have explored ways in which taken-for-granted social structures, norms, and bureaucracy have been upended and reconstituted in response to social, economic, and cultural change across the globe.
