Why should I be published?
Being published is a great thing for undergraduates wanting to go to graduate school, professional schools, or into the job market. Being published in an academic journal means that you understand how to do research, how to critically evaluate your own writing, and how to take criticism from others about your work. All in all, publications make you look awesome.
Wow, the Undergraduate Research Journal for the Humanities looks awesome! How can I be a part of it?
Beyond submitting, you can apply to be a part of the staff for the next issue. We will be accepting applications to be a member of the editorial committee in April of 2020.
Does the subject of my paper count as Humanities?
Does your research fall under one of our Partners' departments, or under international studies, or under interdisciplinary studies? If yes, then it is Humanities. If no, then it is not. Political science papers, however, are on the line between being Humanities and being Social Science. The editors are more likely to decide that political science papers advocating policy are Social Science; whereas, editors are more likely to decide that political science papers that are case studies are Humanities. If you are unsure, you can email the Editor-in-Chief for clarification.
Can I submit multiple papers?
Yes, but there is no guarantee that you will get into the URJH. If two or more of your submissions get approved in the first round, you will be asked to pick one to resubmit in the second round.
Can I submit in a language other than English?
No, our editorial committee is not that confident with their language skills.
I missed the submission deadline and I am graduating, can I still submit?
You cannot submit to this issue of the URJH. However, as long as you have not graduated more than two years ago, you can submit to a subsequent issue.
I have submitted to the URJH before, but I was not published, can I submit to another issue?
Of course! It is highly encouraged!
I have been published by the URJH before, can I submit to another issue?
Yes, but there is no guarantee that you will be published again.
I am submitting a paper with images and/or charts, is that okay?
Yes, we will accept any submissions with images and/or charts, as long as the author has permission to distribute the images and/or charts. Make sure the copyright allows for you to share the images and/or charts. However, we will not accept any other forms of media (ie. film, recordings, etc.).
Can a submission have multiple authors?
Yes. Authors must fill out the required information for each author.
How is my work protected?
Every article published in the URJH and the Journal itself are protected by an Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivative 4.0 International Public License. For each article that is selected to be published, the author must sign a Publishing Agreement with URJH.
