Author Guidelines

Submissions are open only to members of the Society for German  American Studies.  If you are not a current member of the Society, you are welcome to join or renew your membership before you submit:  https://sgas.org/membership/

Manuscripts are submitted without the author's name so they can be reviewed anonymously by three members of the Editorial Board.  Authors and reviewers remain hidden from one another (double-anonymous peer review).

For publication consideration, prepare the text in accordance with the latest edition of the Chicago Manual of Style, then submit the work through the Submission menu.

All correspondence concerning the Yearbook should be addressed to the editor, William D. Keel (wkeel@ku.edu).

Inquiries from publishers regarding book reviews for the Yearbook should be addressed to Gregory Redding (reddingg@wabash.edu). Members interested in reviewing books should also contact Gregory Redding.  Book reviews are generally 750 words (review essays 1500-2000 words).

Manuscript Preparation

The editor welcomes contributions in English, preferably, or German.

Manuscripts must contain the essential elements to evaluate a manuscript: abstract, keywords, figures, tables, and references.

The journal uses the latest version of the Chicago Manual of Style. Upon acceptance, the author will be responsible for preparing the text to adhere to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in these Author Guidelines.

The manuscript length might vary by discipline, but the journal will generally publish peer-reviewed scholarly papers between 7,000 and 10,000 words (exceptions may apply).

The submission file should be in the Microsoft Word, or RTF document file formats that have been correctly anonymized so that author names and bios do not appear in the article and the document metadata has been cleaned.  Please see Remove hidden data and personal information by inspecting documents, presentations, or workbooks.

The text should be double-spaced with 1-inch (2.5 cm) margins on all sides and no extra spaces between paragraphs. A 12-point standard font such as Times New Roman is required for all text, including headings, notes, and references.
