Welcome to the Midwestern Journal of Undergraduate Sciences!  The Midwestern Journal of Undergraduate Sciences is an online publication that advances knowledge of undergraduate life sciences research through research studies and critical reviews of the literature available in an open access forum. Nucleic Acid vaccines have made history in recent years, with the Nobel Prize in Medicine being awarded to Katalin Karikó and Drew Weissman in 2023 for their work in modifying nucleosides for this use. But the first trials of DNA and mRNA as vaccines date back almost half a century. What are the concerns and the promise of these vaccines going forward? And what is it about COVID19 that made this the time to launch their use?
